If when visiting your website you see an error screen that says "Not Acceptable" or "406 Not Acceptable", this indicates that your request has triggered a Mod Security firewall rule. Mod Security is a web application firewall that monitors for suspicious requests and blocks them. The purpose of Mod Security is to protect your website from hackers, but unfortunately it can sometimes flag legitimate requests.
If this happens you can either open a support ticket for us to investigate, or you can resolve this yourself using the Mod Security tool in our control panel.
Follow the steps below to disable the specific firewall rules that are causing the error:
- First find your IP address, this step is required so that you can find the incident in the Mod Security log. To find your IP address visit https: https://whatismyipaddress.com/
- Log into the web hosting control panel
- Find and click on the Mod Security icon, it's found under the Advanced Features heading.
- Click the Log tab. The log will display all recent security incidents detected by the firewall.
- Now you need to find your incident. Scroll through the log until you find an entry matching your IP address in the Client column.
- Once you have found the correct log entry, click on the entry to expand it.
- You will see the firewall rules that the request triggered, click on the Skip link to the right of each rule. This will disable those specific rules that are causing the problem.
If the issue persists you may need to repeat the steps above until all problematic rules have been disabled.
Please be careful to only disable the rules that are causing issues on your website.
