How to install our paid SSL certificates

You can purchase and install a wide range of SSL certificates from us, these certificates have advantages over the free one we offer including warranties, validation of your business, and in some cases display of your business name in the URL bar.

To do this log into your Direct Admin control panel at www.YOURDOMAIN.co.nz/config. And if you have multiple domains click on the domain you wish to work with.

First you need to ensure that your domain has SSL enabled.

  1. Under the Your Account heading click on Domain Setup
  2. Click on the domain
  3. Make sure that Secure SSL is ticked.
  4. You can choose to have different content served under https to what is served under http or you can choose to have the same content.
If you would like the same website content served under https and http then make sure that Use a symbolic link from private_html to public_html - allows for same data in http and https is selected.
Or if you would prefer to have different content choose Use a directory named private_html. If you choose this option then upload your secure content into the private_html folder.

Now you are ready to purchase and install an SSL certificate.

Head over to our SSL Certificates page and choose the certificate you want to purchase. Instructions for installing will be sent to you.

Set up a redirect to send all http traffic to https

To ensure that all traffic to your website is secured you will need to redirect traffic from http://www.yourwebsite.com to https://www.yourwebsite.com.

Also if your website has any domain pointers you will need to ensure that these redirect to the domain for which your certificate was issued.

If your site uses a CMS you may be able to do this by changing your website URL in your CMS settings, or by installing a https redirect plugin such as this one for WordPress.

For other sites or if you want to make certain all traffic is secured, create a file called ".htaccess" and place it in your site's public_html directory. Put the following code into the file:

RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} !=on
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://www.yourdomain.com%{REQUEST_URI} [R=301,L]

Replace www.yourdomain.com with the domain your certificate was issued for.

If your site already has a .htaccess file then this code should be placed at the top of the file before all other content.
