My campaign has a high number of bounces Print

A large number of bounces could indicate a technical problem, that your email campaign is being rejected as spam, or that your mailing list is of low quality. Your bounce rate needs to be kept below 10% for spam compliance. Campaigns that exceed a 10% bounce rate during sending may be automatically blocked. Once you have resolved the issue you can request to have the campaign un-blocked so that it will continue sending. To request an unblock please open a support ticket by emailing [email protected]

To better understand your bounces please see this help topic: Understanding bounce types

You should always use a verified sending domain, failure to use sending domains is the most common cause of high bounces, please see: Creating a sending domain

The second most common cause is that your list has a high number of email addresses that don't exist or are of low quality. Check your contact list and remove bad email addresses, such as those containing common typos like extra.co.nz instead of xtra.co.nz, or that belong to companies or internet service providers that have gone out of business such as Xnet or Woosh. Consider the quality and source of your list; is your list old and outdated? Was your list built from an online subscribe form that lacked double opt in or captcha? Did you purchase your list from a third party? Please ensure your list complies with New Zealand's privacy and anti-spam laws, sending unsolicited email is illegal and breaches our terms of service, please read: How to ensure you are not sending spam

You may need to use a third party list cleaning service to fix your list, here are some services you could try:

Consider whether you have been handling your unsubscribes correctly; when someone unsubscribes they are unsubscribed from just that list, not your entire account. If you are maintaining a single list then you won't have issues, but if you have been creating a new list for each mail-out then you may be inadvertently continuing to send to your unsubscribes. Please see this help topic for advice: Managing your lists outside of BoltMail

The third most common cause is because your email looks like spam or was reported as spam by one of your subscribers. This could be due to the content of your emails or the frequency of your sending. If you are sending too frequently and your content isn't always new, fresh, interesting, or relevant, then your contacts may report your email as spam.
